Japanese Bitcoin investor Metaplanet reported an unrealized gain of approximately $36 million (5.46 billion yen) for the year 2024, making it the best-performing equity among 55,000 publicly listed companies. The company, which holds a total of 1,761 BTC acquired for $137 million, aims to expand its Bitcoin holdings significantly, planning to acquire up to 21,000 BTC by the end of 2026. In 2024, Metaplanet increased its shareholder base by 500%, reaching 50,000 shareholders. Their strategy for increasing Bitcoin holdings includes utilizing debt issuance through secured and convertible bonds and equity issuance methods. Additionally, Metaplanet's share price has shown a strong performance, rising 8% on a recent Monday and gaining 64% year-to-date.
