United States Senator Jon Ossoff has called for President Donald Trump’s impeachment, blasting Trump’s plan to host a private dinner for top holders of his Official Trump memecoin. During an April 25 town hall in Georgia, Ossoff accused Trump of “selling access” in exchange for crypto payments, labeling it an impeachable offense. Ossoff, who is seeking reelection, admitted impeachment is unlikely unless Democrats win control of Congress in 2026, as Republicans currently hold majorities in both chambers.

The controversy erupted after the Official Trump memecoin website announced a private dinner at Trump’s Washington, DC golf club for the top 220 TRUMP token holders. A leaderboard tracking wallets and registration details were posted, sending the token’s price soaring over 50% according to CoinMarketCap. Although rumors spread that attendees needed $300,000 worth of tokens to qualify, the TRUMP team clarified that only the leaderboard standings, excluding locked and exchange-held tokens, determined eligibility.

The event has fueled growing concerns over conflicts of interest tied to Trump’s crypto ventures. Legal experts warned that Trump’s involvement with cryptocurrency, especially with projects like World Liberty Financial, could directly benefit from policies he enacts as president. Charlyn Ho of law firm Rikka pointed out that Trump’s executive orders could significantly impact the crypto industry, creating a dangerous overlap between personal financial gains and presidential power. Critics argue that Trump’s private dinner for memecoin holders blurs ethical lines and raises serious constitutional issues.
