NFT Project Tries to Buy Cold War Nuclear Bunker
Project aims to buy cold war bunker with digital art

An NFT project on the Solana blockchain is aiming to crowdfund the purchase of a real Cold War-era nuclear bunker in England by selling 100,000 digital tokens. The team behind Meatbags, a doomsday-themed NFT series by creators Dead Bruv, plans to drop the tokens starting April 21 at $14 each. Existing Meatbags holders will receive 10,000 tokens via airdrop.
The goal? To raise enough to purchase a decommissioned nuclear bunker in Rutland, listed for auction on April 24 with a guide price of £650,000 (around $862,000). Built in 1960 and decommissioned in 1968, the bunker once served as a Cold War monitoring post.
If the purchase succeeds, NFT holders will gain access to a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) called the Billionaire Bunker Club. This DAO will vote on what to do with the property—options include turning it into a members-only apocalypse resort, hosting “end-of-the-world” festivals, or converting it into a luxury Airbnb complete with canned bean room service and caviar tastings.
Dead Bruv co-founder “Robert” says the idea started as a joke but quickly evolved into a serious community experiment. “This is the kind of insane idea that made me fall in love with NFTs—pushing boundaries, creating absurd yet incredible projects,” he said.
This isn’t the first time a DAO has tried to crowdfund a unique purchase. ConstitutionDAO raised $47 million in 2021 to buy a rare U.S. Constitution copy but narrowly lost the bid. Meanwhile, LinksDAO successfully purchased a Scottish golf club in 2023.
