The hacker who exploited the decentralized lending protocol zkLend for $9.6 million in February reported a loss of 2,930 Ether, valued at $5.4 million, to a phishing website impersonating Tornado Cash. They communicated via on-chain messages on March 31, expressing devastation over their mistake while attempting to move stolen funds, leading them to mistakenly deposit into a fake Tornado Cash site. The hacker acknowledged their error, stating all funds were taken by the scam site and urged anyone trying to help to focus on recovering the funds from the site owners. Following the initial exploit, zkLend had offered a bounty to the hacker in exchange for returning the remaining stolen funds, but there was no response. Overall, crypto scams and hacks have caused losses exceeding $33 million, highlighting ongoing vulnerabilities within the ecosystem.
