ZachXBT identifies 50x Hyperliquid whale as hacker William Parker
On March 20, on-chain investigator ZachXBT revealed that he had uncovered the identity of a significant financial player in the crypto space, known for profiting $20 million from highly leveraged trades on decentralized exchanges Hyperliquid and GMX. This trader, identified as William Parker, was previously arrested in 2023 for stealing around $1 million from two casinos. Parker, formerly known as Alistair Packover, has a history of hacking and gambling incidents, suggesting a pattern of behavior that includes fraudulent activities. ZachXBT's findings stemmed from a phone number linked to a payment from the whale's wallet as well as ties to on-chain phishing schemes. The whale's recent trading activity included high-leverage positions that disrupted Hyperliquid's liquidity pool. While the exchange clarified that the liquidation event was a predictable outcome rather than an exploit, they are now updating their trading guidelines to mitigate future occurrences.
