World Vision first nonprofit to trade crypto in South Korea after ban lifted
World Vision Korea has become the first nonprofit organization to sell cryptocurrency in South Korea following the recent lifting of a ban. The humanitarian aid group cashed out 0.55 Ether, valued at approximately 1.98 million won (around $1,436), which was collected during a campaign aimed at helping underprivileged children with school supplies. This change comes as South Korea's Financial Services Commission (FSC) updated regulations to allow nonprofits to liquidate crypto donations, and exchanges to sell user fees paid in cryptocurrencies under strict guidelines. Nonprofits are now required to have at least five years of audited financial records to manage crypto donations, while exchanges face caps on daily sales to cover operational costs. This regulatory shift signals a potential expansion of crypto activity in the nonprofit sector as public firms will also gain the ability to trade crypto later this year. As of now, it's estimated that a significant portion of South Korea's population holds cryptocurrency accounts, reflecting the growing integration of cryptocurrencies into various sectors.
