Federal prosecutors in the United States have charged Andean Medjedovic, the hacker behind $65 million thefts from two decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, including KyberSwap. The Department of Justice claims he used deceptive trading to exploit these protocols and tried to extort KyberSwap after stealing nearly $49 million in crypto. Medjedovic, who graduated high school at 14 and studied mathematics at the University of Waterloo, is currently wanted in Canada for a similar crime in 2021. He skipped a court hearing and is believed to be hiding in Europe or South America. He exploited Indexed Finance in 2021 by manipulating liquidity pools, stealing $16.5 million, and used degrading racial language in his hacking attempts. During the KyberSwap attack, he calculated necessary trades to create artificial prices in pools. The DOJ is cooperating with international law enforcement to apprehend him.
