The U.S. Treasury Department has sanctioned eight crypto wallets linked to financial facilitators of the Houthi rebel group in Yemen. These wallets are associated with Sa’id al-Jamal, an Iran-based financial official previously designated as a global terrorist. The Treasury claims these individuals procured substantial commodities from Russia for the Houthis, including weapons and stolen grain. The sanctions, part of the Treasury’s efforts to limit the Houthis' capabilities, block these wallet addresses and prohibit U.S. citizens from engaging with them. The wallets, which have been active since at least 2023, have predominantly used Tether’s USDT stablecoin for transactions. The sanctions underscore ongoing U.S. actions against foreign entities deemed to support terrorism and facilitate destabilizing activities in the region.
