Uniswap Labs Officially Launches Layer-2 ‘Unichain’
Uniswap Labs has launched its new layer-2 network, Unichain, aimed at enhancing the user experience for its decentralized exchange. Powered by Optimism's OP stack, Unichain offers faster and cheaper transactions than Ethereum’s mainnet. The platform is designed specifically for decentralized finance (DeFi) applications, with a focus on liquidity across chains. Uniswap Labs expects to generate new revenue from network fees, with 20% allocated to the company. Classified as a 'stage-1' rollup, it features both decentralized elements and some centralized controls during its early phase. A Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) has been integrated for more secure transactions, optimizing the network for advanced trades. As part of its collaboration with Optimism, Uniswap Labs will contribute a percentage of Unichain's revenue to the Optimism Collective, reflecting a growing trend among projects in the Optimism ecosystem.
