Ukrainian police have arrested a 35-year-old man accused of hacking the accounts of an international hosting company to mine cryptocurrency, resulting in estimated losses of over $4.4 million. Since 2018, the suspect allegedly accessed more than 5,000 customer accounts, using the company’s servers without authorization for cryptojacking. During police raids on his residence, they recovered computer equipment, mobile phones, and bank cards, providing evidence of his activities on hacker forums. The accused is charged with unauthorized interference in electronic information networks, which could lead to a prison sentence of up to 15 years and restrictions on future employment in IT-related fields. The investigation is ongoing, with potential for additional charges. This case follows a similar incident where another individual was found to have defrauded cloud computing providers for extensive cryptojacking activities.
