UK Police Arrest Three in $20M Crypto Scam Investigation
The Metropolitan Police in the UK has arrested three individuals as part of an investigation into a significant crypto scam that allegedly funneled over $20 million through a series of shell companies. This operation, named Operation Galafarm, targeted the public with fraudulent investment opportunities. Two men aged 24 and 36 were detained following simultaneous raids at six locations in London on May 7. A third man, also 36, later turned himself in to law enforcement. All three suspects have since been released on bail while investigations continue. UK law enforcement has intensified its crackdown on crypto-related crime, with new powers allowing police to seize digital assets without arrests. The National Crime Agency estimates that illicit crypto transactions amount to approximately $5.1 billion annually in the UK. The government is keen on regulating the use of cryptocurrencies in response to the escalating misuse of digital assets by criminals.
