Tron’s USDT supply to surpass Ethereum’s with new $1B mint
Tether has minted $1 billion of its USDT stablecoin on the Tron network, raising its authorized USDT supply to surpass that of Ethereum. As of May 14, Tether's transparency metrics indicated Tron held $73.7 billion in authorized USDT compared to Ethereum's $74.5 billion. This recent minting allows Tron to claim a leading position once again in circulating USDT, with $73.6 billion versus Ethereum's $71.8 billion. Tether has noted that its USDT mints replenish token inventories for upcoming demands, akin to maintaining an inventory in traditional businesses. Despite Tron leading USDT circulation between July 2022 and November 2024, Ethereum saw a notable surge with an $18 billion mint. As it stands, Solana and Avalanche follow in USDT supply, while Tether's overall circulation has reached a record high, capturing 61% of all USD stablecoins, with its closest competitor, Circle, holding a 24.6% market share.
