Toncoin surges as Pavel Durov leaves France after months
Toncoin's price rebounded by over 6% after Telegram founder Pavel Durov was released from France, where he had been held since his arrest in August 2024. Following this news, the cryptocurrency surged approximately 18% within 24 hours and more than 13% over the past week. In contrast, after Durov's initial detention, TON's price dropped by 35% from around $6.88 to $4.44 before peaking at $7.20 during a crypto market rally in December 2024, only to fall back down by 67% after the post-election hype subsided, hitting a low of $2.36 on March 11, 2025. Durov secured permission to leave France on March 13, reportedly traveling to Dubai, though it remains uncertain if his legal issues in France are resolved or if the travel permission is temporary. The situation has been contentious, with French authorities accusing Telegram of enabling illegal activities, while Durov stated the company is willing to cooperate legally if a proper request is made.
