Tom Brady, Larry David Among Celebs Cleared in FTX Lawsuit—Mostly
A judge has dismissed most claims in a lawsuit against celebrities who promoted the collapsed crypto exchange FTX, including Tom Brady and Larry David. The judge stated that plaintiffs could not prove these celebrities were aware of FTX's fraudulent activities. High-profile endorsers like Naomi Osaka and Stephen Curry were also named in the lawsuit, but the court ruled that while their actions might show negligence, they lacked knowledge of wrongdoing at FTX. However, the court will allow part of the lawsuit concerning the promotion of unregistered securities to proceed. Following FTX's bankruptcy in November 2022, its former CEO Sam Bankman-Fried is now facing serious charges and has been sentenced to prison for fraud. This legal outcome offers some relief to the celebrity endorsers, but allows for potential further legal actions in the future.
