This Clever Google Messages Trick Lets You Use AI on Flights Without Paying Wi-Fi Fees
A clever workaround allows users to access AI via Google's messaging services without paying in-flight Wi-Fi fees. By utilizing Google Messages and Rich Communication Services (RCS), users can communicate with the Gemini AI assistant without incurring costs. During an Air France flight, tech journalist Rita El Khoury utilized the free messaging plan from the airline, which enables RCS chat. Consequently, she was able to connect with Gemini AI, asking it queries about the latest Android and Google news. While RCS messages bypass typical SMS limitations once in Airplane Mode, the user enjoyed the experience of conversing with an AI as if accessing the broader internet while airborne.
