Tether CEO Says USDT Will Not Comply With US Laws, Considers New Stablecoin
Tether's CEO, Paolo Ardoino, stated that the company is unconcerned about USDT being banned in the US due to new regulatory legislation. Instead, Tether is exploring the development of a new stablecoin that complies with US regulations. Ardoino emphasized the distinct needs of emerging markets for USDT, while planning a separate payment stablecoin tailored for the US. Despite Tether facing scrutiny regarding its compliance with anti-money laundering laws, Ardoino maintains that the company is engaging with law enforcement and is in talks with major accounting firms for a full audit. He expressed skepticism about the potential impacts of US legislation, suggesting that competition is fueling claims that Tether wouldnât adapt to new laws. Consequently, while Ardoino projects a reality where USDT may not be prominent in US or European markets, he is optimistic about the token's presence in US secondary markets for remittances. This comes amid parallel efforts in Congress to pass stablecoin regulations, which include provisions that could require Tether to comply with stringent oversight and audits as a foreign issuer.
