Tether adds 8,888 Bitcoin in Q1 as holdings exceed $8.4B
Tether acquired 8,888 Bitcoin in Q1 2025, increasing its total holdings to 100,521 BTC, valued at approximately $8.46 billion. This move involved transferring Bitcoin, worth around $750 million, from a Bitfinex address to a controlled wallet. The acquisition came despite regulatory concerns that Tether may need to sell part of its Bitcoin holdings to comply with proposed US regulations, which could categorize some of its reserves as non-compliant. Tether reported $13 billion in profit for 2024, allowing significant investments, like a €10 million stake in Italian media company Be Water and investments in other sectors. Tether's USDt remains the leading stablecoin, with a total supply nearing 148 billion, which correlates with historical Bitcoin price increases following USDt minting activity.
