Telegram has mandated that all third-party crypto wallets must implement TON Connect, its exclusive connection protocol, as part of a partnership with The Open Network (TON) Foundation. This requirement restricts Mini Apps to the TON blockchain and raises concerns about decentralization and exclusivity among developers. Existing Mini Apps using different blockchains must migrate by February 21, including asset bridging and smart contract migration. Telegram has stated that wallets failing to integrate TON Connect will be suspended, though its own TON-based wallet remains unaffected. Some wallets had previously adopted TON Connect, but others, like Grindery Wallet, are considering exiting the Telegram ecosystem due to the short transition period and concerns about monopolistic behavior similar to Big Tech. Developers express worry that these changes could undermine trust in Telegram and its decentralization goals.
