T. Rowe Price PM touts ‘big potential’ of stablecoins
Dominic Rizzo, a tech fund portfolio manager at T. Rowe Price, highlighted the significant potential of stablecoins during a recent industry conference, describing them as the most obvious use case for crypto. He noted the growing attention stablecoins are garnering, particularly in light of recent developments in the sector, including interest from major financial players such as the Intercontinental Exchange in utilizing Circle's USDC for product development. Rizzo emphasized the importance of distinguishing when to use decentralized finance (DeFi) versus traditional finance (TradFi), mentioning that stablecoins could be particularly beneficial in countries with less foreign exchange liquidity. While Rizzo views bitcoin as a productive technology with inherent risks, he maintains limited exposure to crypto in the T. Rowe tech ETF he manages, noting concerns about valuation and market differentiation among bitcoin miners. Nevertheless, Rizzo suggests that when he finds suitable private companies, he would be inclined to allocate investments in light of the promising future he sees for stablecoins.
