Akshay BD, the non-chief marketing officer at the Solana Foundation, argued at the Accelerate 2025 conference that blockchain technology could potentially democratize investment opportunities. He criticized the current capital markets for failing to serve a vast array of investors and suggested that tokenization could lead to greater micro-ownership of businesses. With sentiments of uncertainty among investors regarding traditional asset classes, Akshay emphasized the growing disparity between wage growth and asset ownership, which confines retail investors to certain markets. He noted that the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence could exacerbate economic divides further. He proposed a vision where individuals could invest in assets ranging from energy companies to local shops merely by scanning a QR code, thus increasing accessibility. He concluded that making markets available to retail investors could reduce market overheating. Akshay acknowledged past attempts to open these markets but stated that technology at the time did not support this ambition.
