Solana has removed a controversial advertisement from its X account that faced significant backlash for its depiction of gender identity issues. The ad, promoting the Solana Accelerate conference, featured a man in therapy expressing thoughts about crypto innovation. The therapist suggested he should create a new gender and focus on pronouns, leading to a monologue by the man about wanting to focus on technology rather than gender. The ad garnered over 1.2 million views, prompting more than 1,300 comments, predominantly criticizing its portrayal of political and social issues. Critics emphasized the ad’s insensitivity, particularly in the context of political actions against transgender rights. Some supporters of the ad retracted their praise after reflection, acknowledging its failure to appropriately engage with the cultural issues it addressed. Solana has not publicly explained the reasons for deleting the ad, which drew ire from various figures in the crypto industry for its tone-deaf approach to serious societal topics.
