Pump.fun, a memecoin launchpad on Solana, has introduced a mobile app for iOS and Android, enabling users to create and trade memecoins on the go. This launch coincides with a 12-fold increase in new token launches in January 2025 compared to the same month in 2024. CoinGecko COO Bobby Ong noted that 600,000 new tokens were launched in January alone, indicating a boom in memecoin activity. The app offers features similar to the web platform, allowing users to manage portfolios and create watchlists for monitoring tokens. However, Ong warned that the proliferation of tokens could lead to liquidity fragmentation and diminish trader engagement, potentially hindering significant price movements. This launch follows regulatory scrutiny of Pump.fun, raising concerns amidst the increasing memecoin trend. While the ease of launching new tokens is at an all-time high, Ong cautioned that this could dilute attention and liquidity among traders, making substantial altcoin price surges less likely.
