Sega's Code of Joker franchise is returning through a digital trading card game titled Code of Joker: Evolutions, set to launch on the Sui network in late summer 2025. Developed by Jokers Inc. and utilizing Mysten Labs' Parasol infrastructure, this new iteration of the game goes beyond its arcade roots from 2013, allowing gameplay through web browsers and mobile devices. The game will incorporate blockchain technology, enabling players to prove ownership, trade, and showcase their digital cards. Sega's Co-COO, Shuji Utsumi, expressed optimism about the role of blockchain and NFTs in gaming, indicating a shift in player engagement and asset ownership. Notably, Sega itself is not developing the game but is licensing its IP, reflecting a cautious approach to the blockchain gaming sector. The Sui ecosystem is also set to include more revived IPs from other major Japanese studios, including a Sui-branded gaming handheld that features pre-order opportunities for $599.
