SEC's next roundtable to discuss crypto custody with insiders
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is set to hold a roundtable discussion on cryptocurrency custody with industry representatives from firms including Kraken, Exodus, and Anchorage Digital. Scheduled for April 25, SEC commissioners Hester Peirce and Caroline Crenshaw, alongside acting chair Mark Uyeda and task force Chief of Staff Richard Gabbert, will engage with crypto leaders like Kraken's Mark Greenberg, Anchorage's Rachel Anderika, and Exodus' Veronica McGregor. Peirce emphasized the importance of addressing custody issues to integrate crypto assets into regulatory frameworks. The agenda also includes talks on broker-dealers and investment firm custody, amidst increasing demand for digital asset custody services in the US, fueled by recent crypto exchange-traded fund approvals. Additionally, the SEC has shifted towards a more lenient approach to the crypto industry following changes in leadership. The discussions occur alongside reports of a government efficiency team related to Tesla's Elon Musk, reportedly seeking access to SEC data. The SEC's previous roundtables focused on token classifications and regulatory adaptations for trading.
