SEC punts decisions on XRP, DOGE ETFs
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has decided to postpone its ruling on proposed cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that would include Dogecoin and XRP. The deadline for the SEC's decision has been extended to June, following filings from NYSE Arca and Cboe BZX Exchange, which are seeking to list Bitwise’s Dogecoin ETF and Franklin Templeton’s XRP ETF. This comes amid a surge in requests for altcoin ETFs, with approximately 70 crypto ETFs filed as of April 21. Market analysts suggest that demand for altcoin ETFs may be lower compared to ETFs focused on established cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Nasdaq has also entered the fray, recommending that the SEC apply strict compliance standards to digital assets it deems equivalent to securities. As the SEC delays, the landscape for crypto ETFs remains uncertain, especially as regulatory scrutiny intensifies under the current administration.
