SEC Names Crypto Industry Veteran as Trading and Markets Director
The SEC has appointed Jamie Selway as the new director of its trading and markets division. Selway, who has extensive experience in the crypto industry, previously worked at Blockchain.com and Skew, a crypto analytics firm acquired by Coinbase. Before that, he held roles at Goldman Sachs and Silvertrain AI. His appointment comes as the SEC has adopted a more crypto-friendly stance under President Trump, focusing on fostering innovation in the digital asset sector. SEC Chairman Paul S. Atkins emphasized Selway's market structure expertise, stating he will enhance the SEC's mission while supporting innovation. Alongside Selway's hire, Brian T. Daly was named to lead the investment management division, highlighting the SEC's renewed focus on digital assets. Previously, during the Biden administration, the SEC targeted various crypto companies with lawsuits, a trend that has diminished since Trump's return to office. The SEC is now equipped with a crypto task force aiming to navigate the complex landscape of cryptocurrency regulation effectively.
