The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has reassigned its top litigator, Jorge Tenreiro, to the agency’s IT department, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal. Tenreiro, who previously led the SEC's Division of Enforcement's lawsuits and investigations, had been overseeing the SEC’s crypto unit since October 2022. His transfer follows a broader reshuffle within the agency, which has included other attorneys as well. Another notable transfer involved Natasha Guinan, a senior lawyer linked to a controversial crypto accounting rule. The SEC's crypto enforcement unit was reported to have lost multiple staff recently. These changes come in the context of President Donald Trump’s promise to halt SEC's crypto enforcement as he established a crypto working group. Tenreiro's role was crucial in overseeing actions against major firms like Coinbase and Ripple, but his new position within the IT office raises questions about the future of crypto enforcement at the SEC. The agency has not provided comments on the personnel shifts.
