SEC is scaling back its crypto enforcement unit
The SEC is reportedly downsizing its 50-person crypto enforcement unit, according to a New York Times report from February 4. Some lawyers from the unit will be reassigned to different departments within the agency. Additionally, a top lawyer from the crypto unit experienced a demotion from the SEC’s enforcement arm, which raised concerns among colleagues. This shift in the SEC's approach comes shortly after Commissioner Hester Peirce criticized previous enforcement strategies and suggested that a new Crypto Task Force should foster a more constructive environment for the crypto industry.
