US federal prosecutors and Samourai Wallet's co-founders are seeking additional time to consider dismissing the case against the crypto mixer after changes within the Justice Department. In a letter to Manhattan federal judge Richard Berman, Samourai Wallet CEO Keonne Rodriguez and CTO William Hill requested a 16-day continuance for pretrial motions. This comes after the Justice Department disbanded its crypto enforcement team. The defendants had previously urged for case dismissal following these changes. On April 24, 2025, defense counsel met with prosecutors to discuss this request. The lawyers indicated that continuing with the pretrial motions may incur unnecessary expenses while the government evaluates its position. Current deadlines for motions and responses are set for May 13 and June 10, respectively, but adjustments to these dates have been proposed. The trial date remains early in November, unaffected by the proposed changes. This move adds to a growing list of crypto cases being reconsidered under the evolving regulatory environment.
