Ripple acquisition of Hidden Road a ‘defining moment’ for XRPL
Ripple's acquisition of prime brokerage Hidden Road is perceived as a pivotal moment for the XRP Ledger, as it may enhance the platform’s use among institutions. Ripple CTO David Schwartz emphasized that this acquisition provides new opportunities for the XRPL in facilitating tokenized real-world assets. Hidden Road boasts over 300 institutional clients and handles significant transaction volumes, which Ripple aims to integrate into the XRP Ledger. Despite Ripple’s previous attempts to promote the XRPL for asset tokenization, actual usage has remained low, with only two tokenized real-world assets valued at approximately $50 million tracked on the platform to date. However, the market for tokenized securities is anticipated to reach trillions by 2030, with companies like Prometheum highlighting a favorable regulatory environment for asset tokenization. As competition in the market between crypto-native and traditional brokerages intensifies, the landscape for secondary markets for tokenized assets is expected to evolve significantly.
