Gaming tech firm Razer has partnered with OpenAI founder Sam Altman’s Tools for Humanity to launch Razer ID Verified by World ID, aimed at preventing unauthorized bots in video games. This solution requires users to verify their identity as human, utilizing a World ID account linked to existing Razer accounts. The premiere implementation will be in the upcoming game Tokyo Beast, which integrates NFTs and blockchain technology. Despite Razer's focus on in-game verification, there is potential to extend this to other areas, like online shopping. Razer’s initiative responds to player concerns, as 59% of survey participants reported frequent encounters with bots, negatively impacting their gaming experience. The underlying technology employs Zero-Knowledge proofs to protect user data, maintaining privacy even for VPN users. However, the program has stirred debates over biometric data security, especially considering past controversies associated with Worldcoin, which offers digital currency for biometrically verified users. Critics express concerns about misuse of ID accounts for illicit activities, highlighting the need for cautious implementation of such technologies in the gaming space.
