OpenSea has announced that it will discontinue several features, including Deals, as part of the transition to its OS2 marketplace, which divides users into Collectors and Pros. This change is set to take effect on June 16, following the full rollout of OS2 last month. The company stated that insufficient usage of these features justified their removal. Notably, the Deals feature allowed users to create customized trades without the risks of private negotiations, and its removal has sparked concern about increased scam risks among collectors. OpenSea CMO Adam Hollander explained that the functionality of Deals was incompatible with emerging ERC 721-C contracts enforcing royalties. While some users have expressed dissatisfaction, others agree that the decision makes sense, particularly for a niche feature primarily beneficial to high-end art trading. OpenSea continues to explore user feedback for future updates, as it aims to adapt in a market where Ethereum NFT trading volumes have stagnated this year, and the overall NFT industry saw a decline of 62% from 2022 highs.
