OpenAI’s newest ChatGPT agent can do ‘deep research’ online
OpenAI has introduced a new agent within ChatGPT called 'deep research,' which enables users to conduct thorough online research and compile it into detailed reports. This agent targets professionals engaged in intensive knowledge work in fields such as finance, science, policy, and engineering, providing them with accurate, reliable information documented with citations. The outputs can be generated in approximately 5 to 30 minutes. OpenAI’s announcement also highlighted that this agent is useful for research prior to significant purchases. The deep research agent is powered by the latest OpenAI o3 model, optimized for web browsing and data analysis, significantly improving its accuracy in evaluations, achieving 26.6% on a 3,000 expert-level question exam. However, OpenAI cautions that while this agent is powerful, it may occasionally produce incorrect information or confuse authoritative data with rumors. This development comes closely after similar features were announced by Google for its Gemini AI model, indicating a competitive surge in AI research capabilities.
