OpenAI has launched Deep Research, a new AI-powered agent within ChatGPT that performs comprehensive web research and data analysis. This tool is targeted towards professionals in finance, science, policy, and engineering, facilitating quicker and more reliable research. Users simply input prompts into ChatGPT, which then synthesizes information from hundreds of sources into a detailed report within minutes. Despite its capabilities, OpenAI notes that the tool may inadvertently generate inaccuracies or mix up sources. Currently, Pro users are allowed 100 queries monthly, with plans to extend access to additional user tiers in the future. This launch arrives amidst increased competition in AI research, particularly from companies challenging existing AI models' performance and cost-efficiency. Notably, OpenAI highlighted Deep Research's superior performance on AI knowledge benchmarks compared to competitors. The timing of this release is strategic, following Google's introduction of a similar feature for its AI model, indicating a growing trend in AI-driven research solutions.
