Ondo Finance Unveils Layer-1 Network for Tokenized Assets
Ondo Finance, the second-largest issuer of tokenized Treasuries, announced the launch of its own layer-1 blockchain, Ondo Chain, designed for tokenized real-world assets. This initiative aims to bridge traditional capital markets with blockchain technology, providing a compliant and transparent network that relies on permissioned validators for transaction verification. CEO Nathan Allman emphasized the need for an upgrade in financial markets, highlighting the benefits of tokenization such as operational efficiency and broader investor access. Recent industry leaders, including Larry Fink of BlackRock, support tokenized RWAs as a significant innovation in finance, urging regulatory frameworks for security tokens. Currently, Ondo's U.S. Dollar Yield and Short-Term U.S. Government Bond tokens hold significant market capitalizations of $385 million and $268 million, respectively. The expansion into tokenized assets is expected to propel the market into the trillions of dollars as institutions explore the advantages of trading on blockchain platforms.
