Most shops in Cannes to accept crypto by summer this year — Web3 exec
Merchants in Cannes, France, are preparing to accept cryptocurrency payments by summer 2025. This initiative, spearheaded by the city’s municipal government, aims for a 90% adoption rate among local businesses to attract high-income tourists. Artem Shaginyan, the founder of Web3 payment company Lunu Pay, emphasized that Cannes embracing crypto signals a significant shift towards integrating cryptocurrency into everyday transactions beyond online use. In February, Cannes Mayor David Lisnard organized a training session for local business owners to facilitate this transition. The move aligns with a broader trend where cities globally, like Lugano and Panama City, are incorporating cryptocurrencies into their payment systems, signaling a shift towards modernizing local economies and enhancing global competitiveness. This reflects a growing acceptance and recognition of cryptocurrency in various jurisdictions as they strive to modernize and attract investment opportunities.
