Metaplanet, a Japanese investment firm, has dramatically increased its Bitcoin holdings to 10,000 BTC, surpassing Coinbase, which holds 9,267 BTC. This surge comes after Metaplanet purchased 1,112 BTC for 16.88 billion Japanese yen (approximately $117 million). Additionally, the company announced a $210 million bond issuance aimed at increasing its Bitcoin treasury further, with plans to acquire an additional 200,000 BTC by the end of 2027. Following the announcement, Metaplanet’s stock skyrocketed by over 20% on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, reflecting strong investor confidence. Year-to-date, the stock has appreciated by more than 417%. Despite recent volatility in the Bitcoin market, evidenced by a drop from $110,000, institutional interest remains robust, evidenced by significant inflows into Bitcoin exchange-traded funds and other investments in the sector.
