Metaplanet scoops 1,004 Bitcoin in 2nd-biggest buy ever
Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has made its second-largest single Bitcoin purchase, acquiring 1,004 Bitcoin amidst a market surge nearing its all-time peak. This recent acquisition has increased Metaplanet's Bitcoin holdings to 7,800, valued at over $800 million. The purchase cost around 15.2 billion yen (approximately $104.6 million). This follows a larger buy on May 12, where the firm spent $129 million, surpassing El Salvador to hold the largest Bitcoin reserves among public companies in Asia and ranking tenth globally. Notably, Metaplanet recorded impressive yield growth, with a BTC yield of 95.6% in the first quarter and 47.8% in the second quarter of 2025. In recent months, they have aggressively accrued Bitcoin, adding 2,800 in May alone, contributing to a trend of companies as major net buyers of Bitcoin this year, according to investment firm River, highlighting a significant shift in the investor landscape.
