Metaplanet Overtakes Coinbase to Become the Ninth-Largest Publicly Traded BTC Holder
Metaplanet, a Tokyo-based company, has increased its Bitcoin holdings to 10,000 BTC, surpassing Coinbase to become the ninth-largest publicly traded holder of Bitcoin. This development follows Metaplanet's acquisition of 1,112 BTC for $117.2 million, raising its total investment in Bitcoin to approximately $947 million with an average acquisition cost of $94,697 per BTC. This significant purchase illustrates the company's commitment to Bitcoin, which it began accumulating in April 2024. The firm's strong performance is also reflected in its proprietary Bitcoin Yield metric, with impressive figures reported in recent quarters: 41.7% in Q3 2024, a staggering 309.8% in Q4 2024, 95.6% in Q1 2025, and 87.2% from April to June 16, 2025. To further its Bitcoin strategy, Metaplanet issued $210 million in zero-percent ordinary bonds, leading to a 26% rise in its share price, now standing at 1,895 yen.
