Metaplanet Aims to Raise $5.3 Billion to Buy More Bitcoin
Metaplanet, a Japanese firm listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, plans to raise $5.3 billion to further invest in Bitcoin. Currently holding 8,888 BTC valued at approximately $934 million, the company aims to expand its Bitcoin holdings significantly. The capital will be raised through stock acquisition rights, indicating a departure from standard practices by pricing above market rates—a notable shift from typical discounts seen in similar offerings. The CEO highlighted Bitcoin as a new benchmark for capital formation. Known as 'Asia's MicroStrategy,' Metaplanet has pivoted from its core business to focus on Bitcoin accumulation, targeting a total of 210,000 BTC by 2027, which accounts for around 1% of the total Bitcoin supply. This strategy mirrors that of MicroStrategy, an early adopter of corporate Bitcoin investments, reflecting growing institutional interest in cryptocurrency as a secure asset.
