Metaplanet Aims to Raise $5.3 Billion to Buy More Bitcoin
Metaplanet, a Japanese company listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, plans to raise $5.3 billion to increase its Bitcoin holdings. The firm already holds 8,888 BTC valued at approximately $934 million. CEO Simon Gerovich announced the strategy on social media, highlighting that the pricing of stock acquisition rights will be above market rates, breaking from the usual 8-10% discount seen in similar financings. The company, referred to as 'Asia's MicroStrategy', aims to expand its Bitcoin treasury, aspiring to hold a total of 210,000 BTC, equivalent to about 1% of the total Bitcoin supply by 2027. This move aligns with a trend where companies are increasingly looking to bolster their Bitcoin reserves. The announcement and the company's stock have seen significant positive movement, with increases reported recently, indicating strong investor interest in adding Bitcoin exposure through corporate securities.
