Metaplanet, a Japanese investment firm, has reached a significant milestone by acquiring a total of 10,000 BTC, surpassing Coinbase to become the seventh-largest publicly traded company by Bitcoin treasury. This number was achieved following the purchase of 1,112 Bitcoins for approximately $117 million. The average price of Metaplanet's holdings stands around $96,400 per Bitcoin. Additionally, the firm plans to issue $210 million in no-interest bonds to further expand its Bitcoin portfolio, with a target of holding 200,000 BTC by the end of 2027. Following the announcements, Metaplanet's stock surged over 22% on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, reflecting a year-to-date increase of more than 417%. Despite recent market downturns, the demand among institutional investors remains robust, with reports of significant inflows into Bitcoin-related products.
