Memecoin platform Pump.fun has reinstituted its live streaming feature for 5% of its users after a five-month hiatus due to prior incidents involving harmful content. Co-founder Alon Cohen announced this update on April 4, noting that the feature now includes industry-standard moderation systems and clear guidelines aimed at fostering a safe social environment while encouraging creativity and engagement among users. The updated moderation policy prohibits content like violence, animal abuse, and pornography but also acknowledges that much content deemed not safe for work (NSFW) might still be present. The previous suspension arose from an increase in extreme content and threats among users related to memecoin trading. The decision to resume live-streaming comes amidst a significant downturn in the memecoin market, with many tokens suffering dramatic price drops, and a decline in successful token launches on the platform. Alumni and co-founders have expressed that insufficient moderation could result in severe repercussions if mainstream media catches wind of any illegal activity.
