Kraken’s Powell claims in lawsuit he was denied housing due to crypto ties
Kraken co-founder Jesse Powell has filed a housing discrimination lawsuit against the management of a high-end San Francisco apartment building. Powell alleges that he was blocked from purchasing a unit due to his ties to the cryptocurrency industry, a recent FBI investigation, and his support for conservative causes. According to the suit, the board of the co-op at 2500 Steiner Street discriminated against him and provided no clear reasons for the denial of the sale. The lawsuit points out that the board aimed to prevent the sale from reaching a shareholder vote and specifies that venture capitalist Bruce Golden was instrumental in this decision. Powell contends that he provided all necessary financial information, yet the co-op unanimously voted against the sale without any explanation. He is seeking a court order to complete the purchase along with various damages.
