Kraken recently turned the tables on a North Korean hacker who applied for a job at the exchange. Nick Percoco, Kraken's chief security officer, revealed that after the exchange received a list of email addresses associated with hackers, one of those emails matched a candidate in their hiring pool. Initially, the applicant's resume did not stand out, but continuing with the process revealed multiple red flags. During a Zoom call, the individual joined under a different name and struggled to understand basic cultural references during a Halloween-themed discussion. When asked to show his location on Google Maps, the candidate took several minutes to find Houston. Percoco pointed out that these incidents highlight a larger issue in the crypto industry—bad actors attempting to infiltrate organizations. He advised companies to implement more thorough verification processes to ensure security, suggesting that interviewing candidates in public locations can provide insights into their authenticity.
