Jupiter DEX and Former Malaysian Prime Minister Accounts Hacked to Promote Sham Coins
On February 5, decentralized exchange aggregator Jupiter and former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad suffered account hacks on X, where scammers promoted fraudulent memecoins. Jupiter alerted users not to engage with suspicious links, stating their main account was compromised while other programs remained secure due to a multisig security model. The scam involved a token with the ticker MEOW, which reportedly ballooned to a $30 million market cap within moments before being deleted. Similarly, Mohamad's account promoted a token named MALAYSIA, which soared to $3.4 million market cap before crashing to $153,000. Traders incurred significant losses, with estimates running into millions. The incident highlights ongoing vulnerabilities in social media platforms, especially with notable individuals being targeted for scams.
