Japan’s Metaplanet to Acquire 100,000 Bitcoin by 2026
Japan’s Metaplanet has revised its Bitcoin acquisition target, now planning to acquire a total of 100,000 BTC by the end of 2026, an increase from its previous goal of 21,000 BTC. CEO Simon Gerovich announced this strategic shift on June 6, stating that the company currently holds 8,888 BTC and intends to purchase at least 91,112 BTC in the next 18 months. This decision is driven by global economic changes and a growing recognition of Bitcoin's value as a scarce and easily transferable asset amid shifting financial landscapes. To finance this acquisition, Metaplanet will issue 555 million stock acquisition rights, supplementing its existing 210 million shares. By the end of 2027, the company aims to hold over 210,000 BTC, positioning itself in the '1% Club' of Bitcoin holders. This acceleration in Bitcoin accumulation aligns with a broader trend where public companies are increasingly adopting Bitcoin treasury strategies.
