Immutable Will Combine Its Ethereum Gaming Networks Into One
Immutable has announced plans to merge its original Immutable X network into the newer Immutable zkEVM layer-2 blockchain by late 2025. This consolidation aims to unify the gaming ecosystem after the zkEVM network processed nearly 150 million transactions since its launch in early 2024. The transition for users will be largely automated; those using Immutable Passport will see assets automatically available on the zkEVM, while other wallet users will have their assets transferred to their primary wallets. Developers will need to adapt to changes as Immutable's existing APIs will be deprecated, requiring some redevelopment efforts. Despite this significant merger, Immutable's IMX token has recently seen severe declines, falling nearly 25% in value, highlighting challenges within the gaming token markets. Recent reports indicate that no gaming tokens are currently in the top 100 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, illustrating a downturn for crypto games despite previous peaks in interest and user engagement during the past year.
