Major darknet marketplace Huione is reportedly still operating and growing despite the shutdown of its website and Telegram channels. The platform continues to process billions of dollars in transactions, indicating resilience independent of its public-facing infrastructure. Following a crackdown on its associated accounts, Huione's operators claim to maintain operations, particularly for VIP vendors, and have received at least $81 billion in crypto since 2021. Despite a proposed ban by FinCEN that resulted in US banks severing ties with Huione, transaction volume increased rather than decreased post-announcement. The Huione Group, including its crypto exchange and payment services, remains active. Chainalysis highlights the ongoing challenge for law enforcement in tackling sophisticated organized criminal networks like Huione, suggesting that deeper, multi-faceted enforcement strategies are necessary to address the complexities of these illicit operations.
