Hong Kong has announced that Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) can be utilized as proof of wealth for its New Capital Investment Entrant Scheme, aimed at attracting wealthy migrants. To qualify for this visa, applicants must demonstrate a net worth of at least HK$30 million (approximately $3.8 million) over a designated period, and a valuation report from a chartered public accountant is required for asset verification. While cryptocurrencies can serve as evidence of net worth, they cannot be used for the subsequent investment requirement, which also mandates a HK$30 million investment in acceptable assets. The scheme has reportedly attracted over 750 applicants, highlighting the growing interest in Hong Kong as a destination for wealthy individuals. The policy reflects a broader acceptance of digital currencies in wealth evaluation processes in the financial sector.
